87 chevrolet seized but still runs???

Ok so i have this 1987 chevrolet 1/2 ton 4x4 pickup. Well i was driving it one day just for the fun of it about a month ago and drove about 9 miles and pulled in a driveway and it went dead (nothing new really its happened before) well i had the bright idea to crank it back up and let it run while i went to get a tap out of my grandads shop. Well when i got back to it maybe 5 min later i put it in gear and it died again. well i revved then engine up enough to get it in gear and to back up well not thinking i took my foot off the gas when i went to put it in drive and well as you can guess it died. Well i immediately started it back up and headed home. Well i made it to a stop sign i ran it hard trying to get it to cool since my temp guage doesnt work, and it died again, but this time it had a little more struggle to it, it seemed like maybe when 1 cyl. was moving it would slow the starter a little bit and you could tell it had to have been doing something because you could feel it through the truck. well i drove it another mile down the road and it lost all of its power i had the pedal to the floor just trying to keep 35mph well luckily there was a truck shop close and i went to pull in it died as soon as i let off the gas and i managed to coast far enough that i was out of the way well i let it cool down for about an hr and nothing the thing was way too hot still and the starter wouldnt even turn the motor over well i gave it long enough to cool off enough to get the radiator cap off which was about 2 hrs and then filled the thing back up with water and tried to start it again hoping that the starter was just too hot itself. well that didnt work. So i borrowed a trailer and towed the rig to my shop and let it sit ever since then and was suprised, i was curious to see if it would even turn over since im tryin to sell it, and well frankly the thing not only turned over but wanted to fire and i could tell it really wanted to bad. Well i got around to it today after school and amazingly enough the thing almost fired right up. now it still had that jolt like something was catching in the engine when starting but it was turning over faster than it has in a while. well when it fired up it was making this noise that was about the cross between a screeching sound and a pinging sound like one of the cylinders is just not having a good day in the oil department. Well i probably did no good by letting it run for a minute but it seemed that it got better after it ran for a minute or two. But still nothing, no power, and still screeching. I NEED ideas here. i have no clue what to do.
