Build Thread A 1984 Black CJ7 Build - My never ending project/addiction
I'm about two weeks behind you as far as the engine goes.

The picture above with the clutch answers one...I wasn't sure if the steel shim used on my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l was also needed between the bell housing and engine.

What are using for a throttle cable bracket with the edelbrock manifold?

I've seen a few Lokar cables with their bracket but I haven't been able to find an edelbrock or similar part.

Your motor looks great!!

I'm sorry, but I can't help you out with that. I basically picked the big parts and asked my buddy at the shop to build it. I picked stuff out like the headers, 3 core radiator, 4 barrel, centerforce clutch, electric fan, etc. All the other things he is just getting as needed.

I am using the factory 2 barrel cable bracket on my edelbrock manifold, havent got it hooked up to the carb yet but it looks pretty close

I thought I'd do the same thing but I don't have a factory bracket and I'm not paying $40 for one if a lokar cable and bracket are only $80. I thought edelbrock might have one but I haven't had any luck.

Glad the motor is getting done. Been able to notice some issues that definitely need addressing. Both sides are shot.

boy your motor looks so good, do you have a Performer RPM manifold? for some reason in the pics it looks taller than a Performer manifold

It's just the regular performer. I still can't believe how much weight I saved by taking off the cast iron one. I'm hoping my friend finishes up soon, but he is doing a great job. I just watched engine masters on YouTube. They did a vid on engine driven fans. I was amazed by how much HP they chew up! Stock clutch fans were like 25 hp. I'm glad I listened to my friend when he suggested the electric one.

Ya I'm happy I tossed my boat anchor intake as well, I am starting to work on getting my electric fan installed

That was interesting. With that big engine you are running though it wouldn't be much more than a tick on a 300 lb mule deer. You won't even notice it :)

Great thread. Thanks for all the hard work and keeping it going. I just got a '85 CJ7 and will be starting a similar thread in the future... most likely stealing a number of your ideas.

Thanks! Steal away. That's how I got a lot of ideas too. :chug: I should to be driving it in a couple weeks. I just hope that it doesn't give me any more surprises . . .

I'm not. Headers and dual flowmaster delta flow 40s. Should sound nice. They are the quietest 40s.

Very cool, i don't have cats on mine now but I'm going to have to put some on it to pass inspection here and it doesn't look like a lot of room around the Transmission in these things

I lucked out being in MA. There isn't an emissions test on my CJ because it's so old.

We have classic plates available as well, I want to be able to travel with mine tho and they get picky with classic plates driving all over the place.

There are antique plates available here, but they aren't worth it. Can only drive whatever they are attached to on weekends or to/from car shows/meets/etc. I just run a passenger normal, which is the cheapest registration by half the cost. And I lucked out again and found that 1984 CJ was available as it had been registered back in 1996ish and cancelled shortly after. Everyone thinks it's a vanity plate.
