I just bought a quart of Rustolium paint for the front bumper and tire carrier. Of course I bought gloss black, the question is, "are we all in a rut?" Why black? why not red or green or whatever?? We have had discussions on paint colors before , some like dull and some like bright some like camo and some of us want to be seen. right now I am trying to decide whether I would like a red bumper to go with my yellow jeep. anybody got anything but black trim on their CJ?:D

Paint it black.
I see a red bumper and I want it painted black.
No colors anymore I want them to turn black.
I wanna see it painted black.
Black as night, black as coal.
I wanna see the sun, blotted out from the sky.
I wanna see it painted, painted black.

I think it yellow and red look like fire :D. IMO, yellow and the right color of blue look great.

I have a hard time painting anything other than small parts a different color. Usually engine or suspension stuff. Although I will be doing more when I paint this year. You can kind of see my ladder bar and shock mount, but I also have painted the stick shift and bell housing in red.

weather permitting I hope to spray the body again this weekend. I too have been thining about this and I think I'm going to spray mine the same color as the body.

I found one person who thinks ^that^ is an awesome idea!

Black - for bumpers, mirrors, etc. - is a "non color". The intent is to knock back or de-emphasize components that detract from the look of the car/truck, bumpers, mirrors, door handles, etc. If you're wanting to add a color, I'd look for an accent color ON the body, e.g. a stripe, the hood bulge, etc.

Willys was'nt affraid of color :D

I'm with Mick. There's a reason for black, it looks good.

the thought of red wheels has crossed my mind a time or two as well.
of course when a thought crosses my mind it is a pretty short trip.:D

To be honest, I have always used black because it was easy to touch up when it got scratched and they are never out of flat black rattle cans.:D

blue is a thought, there is a certain limit to Rustolium colors in oil based quart cans. I think a dark blue is an option.
have to do new axles this year too,Hmmm.

Nice reference to the Stones love that song.:D But have you thought about a dark metallic purple I think purple and yellow look great together. :chug:

IMO lime green would go good with yellow.:wasted:

You have me questioning my whole color scheme now :(

I am glad to see you understand that I started this post so ya'll could have a little fun at my expense.:D
I think I am going to paint the tire carrier red just to see how it looks. a second coat of black can happen if it looks like it was a mistake.

OK so here it is, my tire carrier in Rustoleum red. and it is very red although the picture looks a bit orange. I don't know if this will stay this way or become the primer coat for the gloss black, we shall see.:D
If it was going to just stand there all by itself I would say it looked good the paint covered well and sprayed easily with a good gloss finish. I like the paint and at $8 a quart it may very well replace rattle cans in my shop. I can get a lot more use out of that $12 harbor freight touch up spray gun.

Any update on the IO? Did you stick with it?

Oh yeah, I painted my lockouts red too, it was the only blue thing on my Jeep, and my braided lines are red too. :chug:
