A well done CJ street rod

i was looking at Jeeps converted to street rods. For some reason this idea still appeals to me if it is done correctly. Well, I stumbled across this piture today and just thought it is cool.The purist are going to hate and that is fine because it will always be that way but from a builder prospective, this is a well executed idea.

I would have liked seeing the engine compartment and the 401.

Like IO said. Hand built frame on a fiberglass body. No original Jeeps were harmed. Gives the creator a different outlet for creativity.

Never really understood this type of build, e.g. lowered trucks, hot rod Jeeps, female body builders... I get that people want to do something different. But come on. Can you image that CJ at 120mph? It should do that like a Firebird should go rock crawling. And while I'm at it - did his tube notcher break right before it was time to shorten the top tubes on the cage?

have been kicking around doing something like this for a while, but that would be a while in the future...

The model T was never made with a blown V8 and 15 inch wide tires either but people did it, it caught on and now they are kit cars that anyone can buy. Not a single one of those will ever see 120mph. I do admit there are some part of this build that look terrible like the flames and the bolted on over head bars but she would be a fun cruise night vehicle. Would definitely cause a lot of conversation good and bad.

A Model T has a wheelbase of 100"
Which would you rather do 120mph in?

Don't get me wrong - I LOVE modified cars/trucks. I can think of but a few of my 32 vehicles that haven't been modified to some degree. I just never understood the idea of reversing the intended direction of the car/truck, e.g. lifting a car, slamming a truck. Further, the finished project should perform as good as it looks. So, if it's a street rod - it should be suited to do the 1/4 in a respectable time/speed. A 4x4 should be able to do at least mild trails...

That CJ fails a pretty big criteria - performing in the category in which it was built: Street Rod. No #$*&ing way that thing's stable/safe at 120, 130...

This is my first CJ...

Edlebrock estimated the HP at around 360-380. I raced a couple current year GT Mustangs, Z-28s, etc. Smoked them... in a typical rolling to 50mph street race. But holy *#$^ was it scary. I came close to rolling it at 60mph once. Got a bit of speed wobble and barely kept it between the lines. I swear I lifted a rear tire. Done. Lesson learned - no way to build a trail-worthy (flexible suspension) / street (rod) worthy (fast and stable) CJ.
