Hi all,
I'm in a market for A CJ, since it's one of favorite cars ever, but here across the pond are a bit scarce. Anyways, I was able to find a few. I'm to choose between a CJ5 and a CJ7 , similar mileage and price range. Any thoughts ?

I would say that your choice would mostly be personal preference. I own a CJ5 and have for almost 30 years... Would I only buy a CJ5 again? No.

Many, many times I have cursed up a storm because of the short wheelbase limitations of the CJ5 as opposed to the longer CJ7 . The cursing was from a purely mechanical stand point - not off-road ability.

If I was to buy another CJ and I had the choice of a 5 or a 7 and I was going for a daily driver I would buy a 7. Ifit was stricly off-road with very little on road, I would buy another 5.

Now, I made allot of assumptions in this reply. What do you intend to do with this Jeep?

Also, welcome to the forums!!! :chug:

If you are asking my oppinion, I would say that the CJ5 would be more fun to work with, and I really do think that it looks better than the CJ7 , however this is obviously a matter of personal preferance.

CJ, perhaps a poll on which CJ has the best looks, or just which CJ is your favourite, could be in order?

Anyone is free to make a poll. The option is there once a new thread is created. Give it a shot... :)

Thank you all for opinions
A few things to consider- this would be my second car, I will use it for trips into the mountains, Limited off-road, no city traffic.

That helps narrow things down. How may will you be hauling in your CJ? I took out the back seat in my 5 so any more then two passengers in my CJ is impracticable.

If you have only one intention and that is to wheel - I have to say 5... Shorter wheel base and can get into just a few more places then a 7. Are you looking at any rock crawling? Sometime a little longer wheel base is a plus though...

Actually, if you have two vehicles and they are essentially the same price and shape. You would most likely be satisfied with either. I think you would need to go with whatever one you like the best.

If you ask ten different CJ owners their favorite your going to get ten different reasons as to which they like... :chug:

Being that you are only going to do minimal four wheeling and more over the road to and from the mountains, you may want the longer wheelbased 7, It will be slightly more comfortable. These rides weren't really built for comfort or speed. With that said, I agree with CJ, it is a personal preference. I owned a 5 for many years and still think it is the best looking of all but the CJ2a .
