after 6 yrs cucuy started right up.

put a jegs hei in it and new plugs and wires.dug a full trash bag of wire out of it.rebuilt the oil pump and a new fuel pump.lots of cleaning.poured a lil gas in the carb and hit the key.fired up like never missed a beat.lifters were pretty loud at first but there quit now. question. does the vacuum advance line go to the bottom port on the carb {were it was} or the top? and were should the timing be set. and thanx to everyone for all the great info that i will to continue to get from ya'll. oh yea! AMC 304 sounds perty mean,nice lope.

If I told you what port it would be just a guess without knowing the carb type or even better yet - a picture.

Easiest way to tell is you need to hook the dist to the port on the crab that does NOT have any vacuum at idle.

thanx cj. is tha carb a motorcraft 2100 and does the port on the choke go to the manifold?were should the timing be set?

Loud lifters? i hope you primed the oil pump and motor before firing it up. That would be a fast track to a flat cam.
