Hello All! I have not posted before but have not been able to locate an answer to my question. I have a 78 CJ5 with the AMC 304 and the stock air cleaner assembly but what I believe an aftermarket Holley carb (not sure which one)

I need to replace the air cleaner assembly as the housing's lid gasket is shot and this jeep will be used in South Texas on our hunting lease so i need to make sure dust is minimized. I believe that this has the emission recirculation thing on it.

How do I replace the air cleaner assembly without screwing anything up? I am learning as I go with this thing.

As a purely generic answer you could measure the carburators base diameter and search Summit racing or others for a air cleaner housing to fit.
Maybe post a pic and someone can ID your carb and offer more info too.

Holley carbs have a 5.25 diameter circle were air cleaner sits. That is pretty standard. You could look in 4 wheel drive hardware for replacement parts and see if you can get just the gasket. Or summit racing and get after market k&n filter assembly, or a salvage yard and get a used air cleaner.

Thank you for the information. Based on my research I have already determined the 5.25 base. I think my real question has to do with the replacement and the fact that there are hoses that connect to the air cleaner assembly to what looks like the oil fill cap and then what i assume is the exhaust recirculation.

If I replace the assembly, which I know can be done because I think i have seen only one with the stock assembly on this site. What do I do with the extra hoses because from what I can tell the new assemblies do not have that attached to the cleaner assembly.

Thanks for the info!!

+1 Purple - I have looked and i cannot find the gasket replacement. Plus where we will be using this I think a higher quality filter would be a plus

OK so I did some further research and looking at the Air cleaner assembly on my jeep. It turns out that there is actually only one hose connected to the air assembly and that one is from the oil cap (there are a couple of other hoses, but they seem to re-rout to the assembly), does anyone know what I need to do, can I simply plug that hole or will the new assembly have a place to put it?

Thanks all!!!:chug:
