Alternator Transistor

There is a transistor in the single black wire running from my alternator, is it supposed to be there? It doesnt look like a factory job but without it I cant turn off my jeep.

Sounds like you have a GM alternator and someone wired in a 'diode' so you can turn off your Jeep (yes - it needs to be there).
