I'm going to be getting some aluminum corners for my Cj. The rockers are bare steel and I'm going to get them powder coated. I know it won't match perfectly but does anyone have any experience with an aluminum colored powder coat? A quick Google search came up with this and a similar Eastwood product.

These are what I'm buying. If I can get the rockers to look good in an aluminum powder coat then I'll do the same with some tube defers to complete the look throughout the Jeep

Did you see where you must use a top coat, due to UV issues?

Unfortunately yes. File under " The price you pay ". My thinking was the clear would actually help give it more of an all look and make it easier to touch up in theory.

Do you think the CC or salt used in the winter will be an issue?
Clear coat, me thinks makes it harder to get a good match on touch up.
I really do like the 'silver' of it.
Will you bead blast the panels before coating? That really helps with the 'cling' of the finish.
What temp do you 'cook' the finish?

I won't be doing the powder coating myself. The link was mainly to show the color. Maybe the shop will have some type that won't need clear coat. Maybe I should just paint them myself? The powder coat would be more durable than anything I could do but mine would be easiest to touch up. Here's the fenders I want to add later.

Hav'em all pro done at the same time, for the best match.
Think the 'silver' will look great-
Have you talk'd to the pro-guy about this color?

No not yet. Its snowing here today ( but not accumulating :chug:) so I was just going over some things in my mind. If the powder coat Lois to silver I may as well just paint the parts myself.

Anyone have any pics of any paint or powder coat that mimics aluminum I'd love to see them

Allot of today's alum wheels are silver PC and hold up well.
The ones on my '03 Subby, still look great and it lives outside all year long.

Pete, I would also suggest getting the aluminum blasted before paint as it leaves a uniform mat finish and the paint will stick better than having a smooth finish. Aluminum does expand and contract especially in the changing weather more than what the paint does.

I don't want the aluminum corners painted. I'll hit them with some polish and that's it. What I'm trying to do is to get the steel parts to match the corners the best I can. :chug:

Sorry Pete:o-I'm a dummy:rolleyes:. Thought the sides and corners were all alum.
I would 'finish' the corners with green scotch bright for a satin finish and think that would be easier for a PC match.

Hey Pete, I've used this stuff on my engine and on my trailer. The ceramic in the paint makes for a really hard coating. They make an aluminum color. I brushed on my intake and sprayed the engine block. Both worked great.

PS: If you use this, get the kit with the activator, it's a really good deal.

THX for that info PB-Not seen that before.

What about getting it anodized? Same coating and process as is done on commercial storefront window systems.

If you go ahead with the powder coating, I would recommend using a step drill and enlarging any mounting holes that may have been punched into the panels, before coating.

Can't anodize steel to my knowledge. Maybe things have changed?

The chemical bath used to anodize aluminum will dissolve steel parts.

Can NOT anodize steel or ferrous metals.
