Anyone else thought of making their own aluminum fuel tank? My main reason is because I have axcess to the alum, AND my fuel tank is leaking. An engineer turned me on to the fittings and they are only a couple of bucks.

go for it..just make sure it is padded everywhere so it can't rub ..in my welding business I built many steel fuel tanks for farmers over the years.Mostly to mount on ton trucks to transport diesel for farm equipment. After I built one I would attach an airhose and apply just 2 or 3 pounds of pressure while I went over all the welds with soap suds, checking for leaks..

it does not take but 2 or 3 pounds of pressure..the tanks I built ranged anywhere from 125-750 gallons.it was not unusual to find a couple of pin holes when I built them because with tanks that big there was many feet of welded seams.checking them like this enabled me to deliver a tank that I could be proud of.A kid came to my shop last week.On his truck was a tank I had built for his dad over 20 years ago and he said it was still perfect and had never had a leak..
