I won't take up space with the 20mm ammo box lid hinge details, Others have done it and I think even done it better than I did. I am, however pleased with my lock. I have tried cam locks, electric door solenoids, padlocks, dead bolts and was underwhelmed by all of them.
Then it came to me, like a bolt from the blue!! locking hood pins!!
Kind of pricy, about $30 a pair for the ones I bought, and I only used one so I have a lock for another box, another day.
looks clean, as secure as you can make an ammo box with out welding it shut and I think with a bit of creative thinking you could make this happen with out more than a drill motor and a Dremmel tool.
The cross bar is welded in on mine but rivets and/or bolts and nuts could work. Remember, locks keep honest people honest, if they really want it they are going to get it.
this is the rectangular hole I cut for the lock barrel, a double d would have been better but that requires some pretty special and expensive tools.
This is where the Dremmel with a very small cut off wheel is handy.
it is important that the hole be plumb as the lock and strike have to line up pretty much dead nuts or it will not lock.
I removed the handle on the front end of the box, I have some other stuff going on up there and this is a spot weld cutting drill bit which just cuts around the weld and then the spot can be ground off after the unwanted panel is removed. I think this one is HF and they work best if you center punch the spot weld to keep the bit centered, before trying to cut the weld, .
