Figured I’d jump in and introduce myself. After spending a lot of years building trail rigs and rock crawlers, 2- CJ7 ’s, a CJ8 , a M725, an Xj, a ZJ, and a WJ, I got out of it in 08 when gas hit $5/gallon and sold all my Jeeps and 4x4’s. The itch has been back and I pulled the trigger on a 77 CJ5 . I’ve never owned a 5 so I figured why not. The price was right and in above average condition for the year. The basics- just over 44,000 miles, freshened AMC 304 , rebuilt carb, new exhaust including new factory exhaust manifolds, T-150 , Dana 20 , AMC20 , Dana 30 , riding on 31x12.50x15 Thornbirds. I found it about 180 miles from and after looking it over, I decided what the hell, I’ll drive it home. Purred like kitten all the way home albeit at 55 the whole way, lol! Still a nice mid-week adventure for the wife and I.

Thanks for the welcome [emoji106] For now I’ll be putting a new soft top on it next week and from there I’ll build front and rear bumpers and a spare tire carrier. Managing a manufacturing facility with everything from lasers to powder coating has its perks[emoji41] From there I’ll just drive it and enjoy it. Mild trail riding, possibly some overlanding if my sons get their way, lol! My 7 year old granddaughter is already in love with it after 1 ride in it.

That is a nice looking jeep !

That is a nice looking jeep !
Thanks! I've only had since this past Tuesday, but man, it feels good to back in a Jeep! The body's surprisingly clean, there's some minor surface rust in a couple places, getting that cleaned up is right at the top of the list.

Looks great! That's a lot of meat it's running on!

:welcome: Nice looking 5

WOW a CJ5 ...

Your 5 looks great.

You have AMC 304 8? You can get in trouble but it is worth it :)
