I am starting the process of a mini-resto on my 1976 CJ5 . I want to take the body off the frame to gain access to any parts or components that need inspecting or replacing and to make my clutch install easier.

I know the body mounts often give trouble and some end up having to saw them off, and the wires and hoses should be self explanatory.

That being said, are there any DIY threads or links with pictures on a step by step on tub removal out there?

Don't know of any links but here's the main items:

  1. Fenders
  2. Hood
  3. Steering shaft
  4. Battery
  5. Heater hoses
  6. Windshield frame
  7. Wiring going to the engine
  8. Wiring going to the rear
  9. Body mounts
  10. Pull the shifter boots off
  11. I take the tranny shifter cover off
  12. Disconnect clutch linkage
  13. Disconnect the master cylinder from the tub - don't Need to re-bleed

Takes about 2 hours add for rusted bolts.

Just did all that, tub still won't budge:censored:

How many body mount bolts did you remove? Did you get the bolt in the box under the pass seat?

This is the FSM chapter on body mounts for a 72 -->> 1972 Jeep Body, Frame and Sub Assembly - Jeep-CJ Documents and Manuals

This is the underside of my 72 when I removed it.

Nice. Did you miss some mounting bolts?

I think the 2 on the rear cross member. There are some bolts going through the floor that i'm pretty sure aren't original equipment. Will track them down next weekend. Now If I only had an A-frame
