Hello - Has anyone purchased a Jeep from or had work done on their Jeep at McComsey's Machine and Jeep shop (damjeeps.com) in Holtwood PA? They have a few jeeps that are in the middle of either a frame off restoration or frame on that I am looking at. Looking to hear from anyone who has used them - thanks for reading

They sure do have a collection - don't they? I have never heard of them, but there are many Jeep shops I have never heard of... :)

mom and pop jeep shops are in every population area in the USA. Not uncommon at all, I use a shop called 4 West out here all the time
4 West 4 Wheel Drive Store inc.
anyway, I am sure if they have a steady clientele they do good work and know Jeeps

If it looks like they do quality work and the prices are fair, why not.
Doing a edit here as I just looked at the web site. All I can say is they look awful expensive.

I know I am a few months late, but I was wondering if you ended up using McComsey's Jeep shop or not? Chances are, I saw the same ones you did while I was there back in the end of Feb/early March. I currently have a project in the works with them, and was wondering how you turned out? Hope it all worked out.

I've been trying to access their site, but I can't for some strange reason. I have a 79 CJ7 that needs more TLC than I have time. Does anyone else no of another way to access there site before I swing by the shop this weekend to checkout their rigs? I live closer to the jeepshop in glenmoore(less than 1/4 mile) I can see the sign from my front porch, but those guys won't even return my call just to set up an appointment to drop off my CJ. After leaving five messages w/ some guy named Gabriel I figured that I've seen enough to know a bad sign when It's right in front of me.

Contact Information. McCOMSEY'S JEEP SHOP 66 Drytown Rd. P.O. BOX 129 Holtwood, Pa. 17532. Phone: (717) 471-0613 . 12:00am TO 10:00pm

Bruce is a great guy and does great work. I have an 85 CJ7 that he is doing a resto on for me. I dropped it off in late Feb 09 while I was deployed. The only issue you may run into is that you need to remain patient. He is very busy and sometimes hard to get a hold of. Be prepared to let him do his thing and not try to put him on a timeline. The good thing is he is willing to work with you and accomodate a lot of your requests.

Great!
I have not had positive experiences in my search for a jeep specialist, who is a true jeep lover. I have run into jeep capitali$t who talks a lot faster than they work. I would not mind waiting for a guy who takes his time and does good work, AND "WHO'S HONEST!" My CJ7 is something that I have wanted since I was a kid, and I finally have one! I just want to be able to enjoy it and know that it running strong and secure out their on the trails as I travel to ride mountain bikes and drive a piece of American History. Thanks, I'll give him a call today. They sound like the type of jeep enthusiasts that I've been looking for.

It runs great, but is not ready for the road. I will have to pull it there. Does anyone know of someone who could pull it on a bed for a reasonable price from Glenmoore to McComseys, and possibly back if he can't take it right away? (NOT TOW TRUCK PRICES) I don't have a top for it because it blew off during the tow when I bought.

He might take it right away but what I read from 85CJEric was his has been there 23 mo. and counting. That would take more patience than I could muster.

Not quite that long. Feb will make it 12 months. However there are good and bad thoughts about that. I love the fact that he is addressing every issue that arises and that he is taking the meticulous time to give me a good product. I hate though that he initially quoted me 5-6 months tops, and I will have a quality CJ. I talked to him today, he is again requesting 3 more weeks to finish up. He takes on too many projects without enough help. Just need to be patient with him and trust he has done this so many times that he HAS to know what he is doing.

That is a long time if he wants the full payment upfront! Is he flexible with payments, or does he want all the money up front no matter how long he takes? Is his price based on an original detailed estimate or does he make it up as he goes. Sorry for the questions but this soldier has to do recon before i leave my first real jeep with him. Not to mention, I'm far from rich!

That is more than understandable. I did the same before I took mid-tour leave to take mine to him. He does great work. That is without question. I asked around (just like you are) and have found that his work is of great quality. When I met him, he is honestly, the nicest guy I have ever met. I saw some of the projects he was working on, and they were looking amazing. His prices are based upon how much work is estimated and never anymore. He sticks firm to his prices and doesn't jack them up unexpectedly. Also, you can pay whatever you want down (he recommends half) so long as you pay the remaining balance when you pick it up. If, while in the middle of the restoration, you want to add things, all you need to do is either send him the add-on, or ask him to get it (from Quadratec I think). He does charge extra for additional add-on or surprise add-ons. Now on to the bad....He takes his time and takes on too many projects without enough help. Thus, why mine is taking so long. I have heard from other who have rushed him, that if he is rushed (like anyone else), the quality of work will suffer. Mine is scheduled to be done (again) the first week of march. I will post the end result when I get it back.
