LMAO. A check engine soon light illuminated on my Mother's Buick Le Sabre. No error codes. Let's just say it is now NOT illuminated...

Sure. This is common to see an "SES" (Service Engine Soon). These started popping up in about 1990. Some cars have this indicator instead of a "CEL" (Check Engine Light), while many, and almost all newer cars, have both.

So what's the difference between them and their meanings?

"The 'Service Engine Soon' light indicates that your vehicle may need routine maintenance or has minor issues that should be checked, such as low fluid levels or a need for an oil change. This is triggered by either a mileage or time interval being exceeded for regular maintenance tasks. It's important to address this light promptly to avoid more serious problems later."
"The 'Check Engine Light' is triggered when one of the vehicle's control modules (Engine Control, Transmission Control, ABS, etc) has detected a fault and would be associated with an error code being stored."

I read the extremely generic explanation on Google.
Since no trouble codes are recorded, I say it's a damn stupid indicator.
If something triggered the warning, record it!
