Thinking very seriously of moving to NC within the next few months. Going to head down in Sept. to look things over.

So, is anyone from NC? Good spots to check out? Economy as bad as MI?

Help me out with some info please.

Oh yeah, and how hard will it be to get my Jeep registered?

Thinking of heading to the Winston-Salem / Greensboro area. Have looked a bit at Asheville as well, but not sure of the job market there.

Basically, getting out of MI and heading south. Plus with my son wanting to attend college there, a lot less expensive if you are a resident.


Trying to decide where is the best bet to try for, with at least on option.

It's probably as tough here as it is anywhere. I'm a self employeed carpenter (do everything..plumbing, electrical, drywall, remodels, tile, etc.) and thats pretty near the bottom of the barrel as far as economic high points go. Still...I'm able to stay busy and keep the work flowing in...it's tough...nothing is easy anymore. Currently running about a third of the income I've done in the previous 15 years. Mechanics are staying busy as are those in the medical field. The people that truly want to work seem to be keeping the bills paid (unless they got stupid and over-leveraged themselves during the boom times). The upside is that on a whole, housing costs are relatively cheap (just stay off the Banks). Do your homework and make sure your bringing some skills to the table...there's no free rides at this point in time...everything takes some effort.
