It is very hard to find the blue colored seats, these decals, etc. Someone told me this color scheme was a Limited edition and it will be hard to get any of it w/o custom making them. Any historians out there? It is an '83
You're going to have some problems....but nothing that you can't overcome with a little ingenuity.
First, the stripe kit:
Are you going to repaint your Jeep? From the picture, it still looks pretty good? My Jeep was repainted in 1993. You would be amazed how far a professional wet sand and buff will go in restoring your paint.
Having said that... The side stripes won't be an issue. You might not get an exact match on the color, but you'll probably get 2 out of 3. In the picture below, the the light blue side stripe is just a shade off from the factory original Renegade decals in the lightest blue. The other 2 are an exact match.
The center hood also won't be a problem, BUT they could be VERY expensive. Here is a close up of mine (Factory originals)
So the problem is the width of the material. The side stripes are like 5" tall give or take. The colors come in a roll maybe 6" x 10' long roll, perfect for the side stripes. And that roll isn't that expensive.
The hood stripes though are like 30" wide and you need like 4' of it. Those rolls come in like 33" x 20' rolls and are 10x more expensive, PLUS you need 3 different colors and there will be PLENTY left over. My sign maker wouldn't buy the leftover so I would have to eat it.
The BIG problem is the Renegade decals. Those are 3 tone. They can be custom made, but VERY expensive and I was told they won't last very long. The other option is to "wedding cake" them, that is take 3 different decals and stick them on top of each other. I didn't like the sound of that option. So I just left my old ones and had them taped off before the wet sand and buff.
Sue probably still has my side stripe kit in her computer. She charged me 345 but she took rubbings, measurements, then had to design, then installed. Now all she has to do is hit "print" and send them to you.
You have another option as well, and here is a thread I started in regards to stripe kits and the problems I had.
You sir, are a scholar and a gentleman!
I am unsure if will need new kits yet. The corrosion on the driver side may cause me to replace them. It is about 1.5" x 2" hole clean through and the body mount under it is bad too.
I am a rookie when it comes to body work so...yay me!
By the way Bullseye, That is one FINE vehicle!!!
1984 cj7 RENEGADE, Hard Top, factory air, reman 304 v8, ax15, D 300, D 30, AMC 20 with one piece axle, welded tubes and a searchers truss system, 4.56 gears, 4" lift, BFG 33x12.5x15, DirtWorx front and rear bumpers, rock sliders
The seats to match are going to be hard to find. Keep checking craig's list and ebay. I'll sell you mine for $10 million (shipping included). They were just considered denim blue IIRC but are very close to the slate blue paint.
