Any feed back on this set up? it's all in one unit but the locker is electronically engaged by a switch

I don't know anyone that runs their locker, I use to run their Limited slip though and never had any trouble with it. It seemed like a well built product.

Is this the ECTED unit?

I did a quick search and found a lot of negative feedback on it.

Lots of failures.

I've always heard good stuff about Auburn other than this.

Well, I went for it and so far couldn't be happier. With the Limited slip I don't need to engage the locker too often but when needed it can be engaged at any speed! The locker engages electromagnetically. I was assured (of course) by Auburn that the early problems have been taken care of.

Cool man.

You should do a long term review for us down the road.

I am getting ready to regear and remove my locker and this is very intriguing...seems to be the best of both worlds. What axles and gears are you running?

I will be watching for your updates!

Detroit in the rear, 4.88 gearing with 35" tires and one piece axle.
I would think this Auburn set up would be great for the rear. Testing it more severely in a couple weeks.

Gotcha, I am wanting to do this in the rear axle...how does the Detroit perform on the street? I has a simple lunch box lock right and it has never failed on the trail...and was punished but it is awful on the street from shifting to turning...

The detroit is going to bank and pop. I have a Yukon Grizzly and it does too.

I feel the same way about my Detriot. It take alot of getting use to.
If the roads are wet it's even worse.

I like my detroit locker on the street . when I first got it installed was driving it slowed down for corner then got on gas and the back end did the butt dance , detroit runs good on and off trail :)

Here's info on the Auburn Ected
Ected Locker
Selectable Locker

Ected stand for Electronically Controlled Traction Enhancing Differential. It is made by the Auburn Gear Company. It is activated by an electric switch on the dash. The Ected differential is unique in that when it is unlocked it is a high bias Limited slip differential.

Here's a thread on lockers and Limited slips

The detroit works great off road and seems bullet proof. It's not too bad on the street, a little chirpy in tight turns. I'd really like to have my front set up on the rear too for snow but just dumped a pile of money into this Jeep, maybe next year if the Auburn proves itself.

Well, not a very long term evaluation but I have tested it severely now and it has performed perfectly. I've found that with the high biased Limited slip I won't need to engage the locker too often, that's for sure. and this winter the LS should work well in the snow which is really why I went with this unit.
We'll see how it holds up.

Hey Chief, I am thinking about the ECTED/LS and did a search and came across your post here. Are you still running the ECTED? Do you still like it if so or did you end up switching it out? I am thinking about running them front and rear. Thanks for any advice

Yeah, still running the ECTED in the front. So far I'm likein' it. The only thing is, the LS works so well that I never feel the need to hit the locker switch. When I do lock front the steering is super stiff too, but maybe that's the case with any locked front?
BTW, I have a Detroit locker in the rear and with the LS up front the Jeep does great in the snow.
I see you're in Nampa, my Grandfather owned the Parma Seed Co. forever way back when.

Wow, really...When I was growing up I used to go fishing on the Snake river south of Parma and my dad and I would stop in town to get bait and lunch stuff. I just recently moved back here so I havent been out there since joining the Navy in '96 but my dad and I were just talking this past weekend we need to get out there and do some Cat fishin. Did you live out here? My last duty station was Sunnyvale, CA, my wife and I spent a couple weekends in Napa.

Glad to hear you are liking the ECTED, would you recomend one in the rear and front or do like you did and put a Detroit out back? I was thinking I would like it in the rear also thinking it would be a little more streetable. Not that my CJ5 will be a true daily driver but I will drive it a lot on the street and to and from trails.
