avoiding rust between body and hinges

I'm in the process of repainting my '79 CJ5 and cleaning up some fairly minor rust issues. There was a lot of rust in places where stainless items attach to the body -- like the hood hinges and the body, or where the windshield frame attaches to the body. Let's assume that when I'm done that I've properly dealt with the previous rust and have done a good job with prep and painting...

I'm wondering about some sort of silicone or gasket material to help reduce the chances of rust reoccurring between these hinges and accessories that attach to the body. I don't want something with adhesive properties. I want to be able to remove items without damaging the paint. Any experience or suggestions?

I've thought about this and was inspired by older vehicles that have bolt on fenders.
Like the bug I used to own.
They use either rubber or teflon also cheaper ones use plastic or vinyl.
But I've considered a thin coat of spray on rubber coat on the removeable parts.
It wouldn't shift and squirm around like a gasket and allow sand to get in and scratch away at the jeeps surface.

Anothe thought is that clear scratch guard tape stuff they put on the hood on some new cars. It's sold all over the place, I like this cause it's thin and clear.

it may sound stupid, but I use that rubberized shelf stuff for tool boxes, holds up well and does not shrink. it comes in sheets and is not that expensive. Is oil and solvent resistive

Do you use the tool box liner that is a solid sheet like:

or the "perforated" kind like:

?

I suspect either would be ok and achieve what I'm after.

Or use that make your own gasket material that you cut yourself.
