I recently found a bad switch as the cause of my backup lights not working. The old switch had a broken prong. Without installing the new switch, I can plug in the connection and work the plunger with my hand and the reverse lights work. When I install the switch and put it in reverse they do not work. I am assuming there is something in the Transmission not working. I've tried it at varying depths of insertion of the switch and that doesn't matter. When I stick my finger in the hole where the plug goes and work the shifter and I can feel a definite shallow area when it is in reverse versus all the other gears but it sure isn't working when I plug it in. Any suggestions on a plan of action. I think I already know the answer and dread having it reworked because I don't think I can do it and it sounds like a costly venture. This is a TF999 automatic on a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l 6 cyl. 85 CJ7 .
