Bad fuel pump?

See if you can tighten the screws around the carb.

The best fix for that carb is to carefully disconnect all the lines and hoses, remove it, and then beat it into pieces with a medium size ball-peen. Next, sweep up the pieces and place them into a hole no less than 24" deep with a couple of pounds of salt. Now, acquire and mount a Motorcraft 2150 in place of the old carb. Enjoy!!!:)

Where I live-We can only use the OEM Carter for SMOG test'n. That's fine with me, as I've never had any issue with'em. Learn'd to rebuild'em back in the 60's.

NEW MotorCraft 2150 Jeep/AMC/Eagle/Pacer Carb Upgrade 258/4.2 1.08 Venturis | eBay

is this the one to get to replace my factory leaky carb?

Learn how to fix/rebuild yours. Sooner or later you'll be in the same mess with a new carb. No guarantee it won't need tuning etc to run 'rite' on your Jeep.

I am not at all opposed to learning to rebuild the carb but if the 2150 will make the engine run better, I would like to do that... then I could rebuild the stock carb and save for a rainy day.

Learn the Carter before throwing $$$$ at the Jeep.
Carter was OEM, on many of the AMC vehicles.
