Well this weekend after getting the CJ running again after a rear axle install following a thorough body off rebuild and thinking I was good to go for the summer I went down to the market about a mile away went in and got some goodies come out and climb back in..turn the ignition and nothing...great, no tools or anything, lift the hood and look at the battery connections..OK, look at the starter solenoid and see the positive lead from the battery is loose so I tighten by hand and still nothing when turn the key...call wife..she brings me some jumpers and I jump across the relay with the key in run and it fires up..Yaho! Get it home and start troubleshooting to find that my key lock cylinder is not allowing it to turn far enough to the start possition, ordered a new key/lock cylinder and then maybe I will be good to go for the summer! Does it ever end?:D

did you check the switch itself? it is on the top drivers side of the column and is at least slightly adjustable up and down. It is a real PITA to get to but it will be a lot easier than putting in a new switch and finding out that isn't it.

It's the lock cylinder, I have it out and feels like it fell apart inside as the key will turn in it sometimes and then it won't. with it out of the column you can grab the switch blade thing with pliers and works fine and will start it up.
