I would like to remove the old DIY roll-on (faded black) bedliner material from my fiberglass tub. I am getting ready to paint it ferrari yellow, and would prefer the smooth-shiney finish. I have read that brake fluid works, and will not hurt the gel coat. Also, aircraft paint stripper, but I think it might be too harsh for the gel coat. Any ideas from previous experiences with fiberglass tubs would be welcomed and appreciated. Thanks:)

I don't know if this would be okay with a fiberglass tub or not, but I used a big pressure washer. The PO had tried to use Herculiner but it didn't stick very well, like you could peel it up in most spots with your fingers. Your liner may be stuck on there pretty good though. Just an idea... And I have a steel tub, so I don't know if it would be okay with fiberglass or not.

The faded-black DIY rolled-on bedliner in the fiberglass tub is bonded like epoxy. A pressure washer will not work. Thanks for responding.

Why do you want to remove it?

I prefer a slick-smooth-shiney finish (at least on the sides of the tub & wheel wells); I might consider coating the very bottom of the tub with a color matched DIY yellow bedliner material. I tend to doubt that I can color match, or come close to matching ferrari fly yellow, or ferrari modena yellow.
The faded, dull black DIY bedliner is chipped, dinged up and would not look right with a nice, new exterior paint job.
