Belt/Bearing Squeeling

Evening!!

So I bought a CJ7 ...the guy I bought it from briefed me that it has some squealing issues...belts?...shimming?? which is what he suspected. Anyway I took It to a local mechanic who agreed shimming (because we swapped out all belts and it still squealed). My question....which could be vague...I noticed when I had it running and squealing, when I turned the steering wheel the squealing stopped..It has power steering...could a bad power steering pump cause all this noise??? Appreciate any feedback!!!!

I’ve heard em moan a good bit but never to the point of a full blown squeal. Not that they couldn’t, just never heard the pump itself squeal. They used to make a belt dressing “stick”, bout an inch and a quarter in dia, that you pressed the end against the sides of the belt. Silence em right up. If you can find that, it should stop the belt from squealing long enough to rule out a bad pump.

Ok - So it comes in an aerosol can now....... but should still do the trick

Rule the pump out by taking the belt off it. It could also be the water pump or altanator

To narrow of a belt will squeal.
You want the belt riding near or at the top of the pulley.
Are the belts running in a straight line from pulley to pulley?
