Intermittent blinkers. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, depends on what mood they're in. Bulbs work. Hazards work. Please don't tell me it's the switch. Easy I guess but don't have the time. Use arm signals out the door but nobody understands what it means anymore, especially here in mexico....

If it was the switch, it would be easy. Most likely it's a bad ground. Surprising how a bad ground will make things that shouldn't be working, work.

No easy way to do it, other than start tracing all the circuits and looking for deteriorating wires/connectors/sockets/etc.

Good luck.

I agree with the way Hack says it. The hole in the steering column where the switch handle comes out can collect a lot of dirt, dust, and moisture that can affect its operation also.

IGN OFF. Work the turn signal lever up and down, 25-30 times. This cleans the dirt off the contacts. Now test'em.
FYI: Your brake lights and turn sigs are routed through the turn sig switch/lever. When your turn sigs act up. Most times, 1 or both brake lights won't work either. Your run'n lights will work because they are on a different circuit.

Seems heat related. Worked again this morning. If I remember correctly, seems to stop about halfway on my commute in the evening. Did the switch about 40 times. Might look into tracing the wires/ground this weekend. Oh yeah, and look at the Dana 30 yoke. and the brakes. and the steering box..and the incessant rattle...

Inspect the large wiring connector attached to your steering colume.
That's a known source for lighting issues.

Strangely heat related it seems. They work the whole time in the morning and most of my way home in the evening. After about 15-20 minutes on the way home, they stop working. Hazards work the entire time though so that should eliminate the relay as the culprit, right? Went through the ground and what wires I could identify and didn't find anything loose.

I run my lights full time, even during the day. So the light switch / blinker switch is getting too hot? Going to try the commute home without lights on and see what happens.

Your headlight switch has nut'n to do with your brake/turn lights. Two separate circuits.
IF, your headlight switch is get'n hot. Have you done the hardwire dash lead to the Battery NEG(-)post?

Dunno about it getting hot or not. Just an assumption since this only acts up when it's hot outside and after traveling for a bit. Hadn't had a problem with this same setup for a number of years now running the same way and even on hotter days and longer trips which is why I'm confused.

CJ's have well known electrical ground issues. The dash hardwire deal I spoke of has fixed/corrected many of these issues. It sure helped on mine.

Ya, I'll look again but I'm pretty sure I upgraded the ground when I removed the dash for painting but it's been a while.

I have hardwire GND's from grill to fender, then firewall. I use SS bolts/nuts with external star washers w/stranded 12ga wire and crimped and soldered connectors.

Had the headlights off while heading home in the evening with the rest of them on. Blinkers worked the whole way so I'm assuming it's something to do with the light switch getting hot or going bad? Guess it's time for a new switch or ... relay's:rolleyes:

WHY, don't you do the hardwire ground deal on your dash panel before throwing money at it?

cause it's annoying the hell out of you that I haven't yet. :poke:

Easy fix. It was the turn signal flasher.
