Has anyone found a media player/amp that you could mount behind the dash, and is ONLY controlled through your phone? No buttons, No display, No single din. Just a small box that powers your speakers, and connects to your phone. Would be nice to have something that isn't a target for thieves. Thanks!

Interesting concept to have no physical access to the player, just a hidden device behind the dash with a bluetooth interface. I do have a marine radio in the dash, and then a 2-channel power amp hidden behind the dash to drive the wakeboard tower boat speakers mounted on the rollbar. But the bluetooth and other control is in the stereo itself.

There is a place called Out of Sight Audio (outofsightaudio.com) that has such options. I looked at them when considering my audio system. But I didn't want to mess with the phone while driving to change tunes, take calls, or switch between functions (radio, bluetooth, USB device).

Thanks bud! It would be nice if someone came up with a product like that. I've got this Sony receiver in my CJ5 , but all I'm doing is playing music/podcasts off my phone. All you need is a small module with a digital amp, Bluetooth, two speaker terminals, and you're good to go. You could also come with a remote control to change tracks while driving. There's gotta be some DIY'er on eBay selling this stuff.

Now there are also after market steering wheel remotes to control audio systems as well. Don't know if one could bluetooth to one of the units from Out of Sight Audio or not. Hidden audio system and no need to fidget with the phone while driving.

I think you'll find that having a tactile button to change the volume at least is helpful. I use this Bluetooth receiver in my cj (Link)-> Amazon.com -<

The amp for the front speakers (which has a small, optional volume knob). I mounted the amp behind the dash, on top of the glove box: (Link)-> Amazon.com -<

With those two easily hidden components I think you have what you are asking for.

Specifically not what you wanted (1/2 din), but what I used and placed in a locking center console for controlling the audio while driving. This specific one also has a built in BT receiver, but my install has a few other gimmicks which required the use of a discrete BT receiver (above): (Link)-> Amazon.com -<

What is “ No single din. ?
A "single DIN" is a standard sized radio from back in the day. A "double DIN" is the same width but double height. Most aftermarket stereos are single or double din. Now that manufacturers are building their own systems, they're mostly odd sizes that aren't either. Neither of my ~2000 Chrysler products had a standard size radio and they couldn't be interchanged with each other either. It made for some frustrations when the stock unit began to fail.

OP, I was able to find an inexpensive BT radio with a 10w built in amp on Amazon. Wasn't going to use it for anything but slow off-roading. I'm not a huge fan of loud music with an open top- at highway speeds I usually have ear plugs in.

Thanks for the explanation..
