boxed frame

just a quick question. i was under my CJ yesterday and noticed that my frame rails are boxed from front to rear. i've read in many posts about people doing this themselves and that the CJ frames werent boxed from the factory. mine looks like a factory job. did these come with boxed frames and my ignorance is just getting the best of me here? its an 81 CJ5

Since 1976 the frames of CJs have been boxed from the factory.

The 1976 was 3/4" boxed, rear 1/4" section being c-channel. The 1977-86 were fully boxed.

The CJ frame is made of 2 c-channels the outer channel being 3/16" and the inner channel 1/8". The 1/8" channel slides into the 3/16" channel.

Fully boxed with the exception of the front from the crossmember forward. (I know, splitting hairs )
