brake line extensions

I have been trying to install the brake line extensions on the front of my 82 CJ8 and have been unable to do so. The problem is is that I cannot discount the flex house from the hardline. I have pulled the retainer clip and tried to unscrew the line but to no avail. Is there a trick I am missing? Thanks!

I would suggest using a compression nut wrench. If that doesn't work, then usually the hard line has to be replaced also. That comes after I break it.

Very old brake lines tend to seize. You need to soak the connection with good penetrating oil like PB Blaster or a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone (which works better than PB Blaster). WD-40 won't cut it so don't waste your time.

Drench the heck out of the connection twice a day for a week straight. Once in the morning, once in the evening.

While that's soaking, go and talk to your local Snap On guy about getting some good flare nut wrenches. The hardware store wrenches are worthless. Though if you've already rounded off your flare nut, just go straight to the vice grips. Get them good and solidly clamped on the flare nut and it should come out.

Even so, with very old hard line rust may have settled in and you may end up twisting the entire end off the hard line. I did that last time I swapped out brake lines. I had to build an entirely new hard line. But it was the drivers front so it was short and easy to replace.

Thanks folks. I have been soaking the connection for the last few days and will try again as soon as I can get flare nut wrenches. The way things are going I have a feeling that they are pretty rusted in and will need to be replaced. Thanks for the suggestions.

When using a compression nut wrench, if you can hold the wrench closed with a vise grip so it won't spread and round off the wrench flats. I've never tried it, but it sounds like it could help.
