ok, so my 87 CJ7 with non pwer brakes had a fading brake pedal issue about a month ago. I noticed a little fluid leaking into the cab so i swapped out the master cylinder bled the brakes everything is working great, now i am having the same leak into the cab but no fading pedal. I'm sure the master cylinder was bad internally for the fading breaks but the leak is between the master and the fire wall. is there a gasket or packing that goes between the master and the firewall that i may be missing, the new one did not come with one nor did the old one have one? Could I use some kind of RTV or will the fluid eat through that like it does paint? Also if there is a gasket or something where could i get one cause my local parts guy had no clue.

No gastet there. sounds like your new master cylinder is leaking.

There is usually a "foam" gasket between the master cylinder and firewall, however, it is not designed to hold fluids back. If you have brake fluid leaking from there, you have a bad master cylinder period. I generally do not have much faith in today's "reman" parts, I try to buy new if it's offered.

Ditto on the new master cylinder being bad.

It won't be the first time your parts dealer has had one returned. Call them first to see if they want to see it leaking in your CJ.

i use to work at advance auto and now oreillys. from what i have seen at both places i would buy a brand new one not a reman.
