While sorting out the rear brakes and discovering the missing equalizer bar on the left side, I noticed that there is some flex in the mount for the e-brake pedal. Closer inspection showed that of the two places where the mount is welded to the body, one is broken loose. Neither weld is longer than an inch and a half.

First reaction is that it's part of the brakes, fix it. Realistically, I would have never noticed until the mount broke the rest of they way. Considering how often I use the pedal style ebrake, it might never break.

Should this be added to my priority list of thing that must be done? Due to the location, any welding would require at least some sanding and primering on the outside of the tub. I think. Right now I have the dash and steering column out to facilitate R&R of the fresh air box (seems a PO thought it would be OK to cut this and fill it with silicone to make room for a radio) and make chasing wires a little easier. I'm about done with the electrical (I hope) and am waiting for the fresh air box to arrive before I will be ready to put it all back together.

When I get home I am going to look at my 77 and see what you are talking about. I just can't visualize the brake assy being welded to the body.

I vote to fix it. If you ever blowout something in the brake system, it might be the only way to stop.

Yeah, fix it now while everything else is down. You never know when you will need it, and you want to be able to trust it when you do need it.

the 77 has stud bolts going through the fire wall and is bolted to a bracket that is just behind the dash and welded to the inside of the body. Is this bracket what is broken??
I say fix it. I bet that the story behind how it got broke is an interesting one.
