Hi guys. I have a T-150 3 speed with a Dana 20 trasfer case (I think - the front drive shaft is on the passenger side). I have a few questions:

1 - I checked the T-150 level today (bolt on driver side) and fluid came out so I think level is OK, but the fluid was brown. Should I change?

2 - I didn't check the Transfer Case but have heard that it may share oil with the Transmission . Is this true? And if so, does it mean the tcase level is OK if the Transmission level is OK? I don't know how to check the tcase level.

Thanks guys. I just want to be sure everything has the lubrication it needs.

1- I would change the fluid. It cant hurt so long as you fill it back up!

2- If your Jeep came together from a 79 and a 74 then it should have a Dana 20 . The Dana 20 has its own fill plug and you change the oil separately but it isn't completely sealed from the Transmission so some fluid can transfer between the two... so change both oils.

3- I think the filler/check plug is on the back to the right side. Search around and I'm sure you'll find it but a repair manual or the internet can likely help you find it as well. Maybe someone else here will know 100% where it is.

Hi,

which is the right oil for these both transmissions?

There are diffrent gear oils, which is the right?
I think the oil for the manual is not the same as for the Transfer Case ?

Brown oil means you've got water contamination in the oil. That's not the end of the earth but it's hard on the bearings. Drain it and refill.

Check the owners manual but I think 80-90 weight gear oil is what it takes. If you don't have an owners manual, a haynes or chiltons will tell you as well.

80-90w

Might take the breather off and make sure its good to go.
