The old mustang is gonna be handed down in the next couple of months, so I thought now might be a good time for a new ride.

My situation: I will keep my old CJ as a toy and second vehicle.

I don't want to pay more than about 25,000 for the new vehicle. I really like convertibles, but I really love quick cars, but I really want good MPG, but I really need a regular size back seat. Tough call.

Here is what I'm considering.
1) Jeep Islander: some say that it is too much for the decals, but I'm thinking the wheels and stuff are worth something. I think it's a great looking package. Wife would say I already have a Jeep, but it has no top (and never will have a top). I live in hot south florida where it rains all the time, so many times I leave the Jeep at home because no a/c (wife and kids complain) and don't want to get wet, so this would allow me to put the top up and down and enjoy the a/c, so it is different. Problem here is that it gets terrible MPG. Main reasons I'm looking at this is the top comes off, it's rugged (we have hurricanes around here), and I love Jeeps.

2) Ford Fiesta: Not out yet, but looks like good MPG, at 120hp and a small car, should be fun. Ford dealer right down the street and I have the mustang and a sports track, so I know them already. I may get loyalty discount as well.

3) Mazda 3. Great looking, sounds like a good car. Problem is I would have a 30 minute drive to the dealer. Also considering a Mazda 3 Speed, but it is a long shot as it needs premium fuel and probably expensive to maintain.

4) Chevy cobalt SS. Problem here is that I'm not sure it's available in 2011, also pushes the money envelope. I would get a discount of 1,500 for my GM card. Also would consider the regular cobalt.

5) A hybrid like the Prius or Insight. Problem is, not sure if I'm ready to get something that slow. I've always had cars like mustang/firebird. Also, I hate automatics.

6) Genesis Coupe. Problem, no Hyundai dealer within 20 miles.

7) Any other ideas?

new V6 camero. arround your price range, great gas milage, 310 hp i think, pattle shifters, mucho grande cajones (got big balls haha), and its awesome, not to mention they are bad <-BAD WORD->, they are pretty cool too :D

i agree with cheapjeep.. im gonna pretend you didnt say anything about a prius.

What's wrong with a Prius? I got a picture of the one I was considering for you to see. I would think it would go over well here!

Seriously, my fuel bill is over 300.00 a month and driving me to the poor house. I really don't think I could live with a Prius, but the MPG sure makes me wonder.

I sat in a camaro at the auto show, quite cramped inside. I have 2 teenagers. I just wish it were a little more "family friendly". I think I will give it a second chance test drive, however.

get a wrx/sti. its 4 doors, good milage, and it has a turbo for when you want to stomp on it and its all wheel drive. ive been trying to get my wife to let me trade in my 03 accord for one but she wont let me :(

you could get a new eco boosted mustang. just as much power of a v8 and the milage of a v6 or the new twin turbo taurus. if you cant tell ive been on a turbo kick lately lol.

Get the new 5.0 mustang.

But seriously buy for what you need and not what you want.
Trust me toys are great but having the right vehicle really pays for itself.

hence the consideration of the hated Prius :)

My last few cars have been Mustang, Firebird, and sport track. It would be quite a difficult thing to buy a econobox, but as long as I have the V8 CJ in the garage, I may still feel like a man.

(dalefan88) STI just too expensive, not going over 25 out the door.

Any one seen the Huyndai Koup?

you can try to find a used one with halfway descent miles lol. just kidding.

OK, I've caught a little flak on here about that Prius (hers), but I gotta say it's a pretty nice little ride. Plenty of pep for regular driving - I mean don't go for pinks with it, but it won't totally embarass you when the light turns green, and it'll cruise at 65-70 with no strain. It's a little squirrelly in a cross wind, but it ain't white knuckle time. And that 45-50 mpg is accurate (better in town than on the freeway).
And before anyone asks, the only time I hugged a tree I kissed it too. Tripped over the damn chainsaw.

seriously though the wife had a scion tc it was a nice little ride, had a big backseat for a 2 door coupe, got good gas mileage, and was pretty quick for what it was. it was a fun car to drive. i speak of it in past tence because some asshole pulled out in front of me and totaled it.

my buddy has one. nice car. they need to make a 4 door one.

We have about 6 customers with the Prius. 0 complaints.
One "01 has about 190k,& has never had problems.
Maintenance is low cost, spark plugs every 120k.
I see one on the commute,& looks like he has no lack of passing ability.
Not that i'd ever own one, or anything like it. :D
I like the Deuce,& a half idea.
But, maybe it's just that my neck is really that red. :chug:

here's my $.02. small diesel, VW, Jeep, or anything similar. We have the '05 Liberty, with the diesel in it, and there is plenty of pep, with 25 mpg avg, i like it. The VW, i know two people that have them, and they average 45 mpg's, and they will run. You can't find the Liberty new anymore, but it's a waste to buy a brand new care, when you can get the same thing for less that's only 6 months to a year old. again, just my $.02

my next car will be the 550sl
what can say, I love quick and the engineering is pristene.
