I started up my 75 CJ5 (AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ) today after two months of sitting and gas started pouring out of the bottom of it near the gasket and possibly somewhere in the middle. I didn't look like it was leaking out of the hoses. It also ran like :dung: all of a sudden. Like it was loading up. I don't have a manual pull choke. I don't know if it is electric or a climate choke. How do I tell cause I think I will order a new one and don't want to order the wrong one.

Please Help :bang::notworthy:

Taking a wild guess, from what you have described, it could even be a cracked float bowl. A picture would help.

My question is what is the difference from the climate choke and the electric choke. I don't have any wires going to my carb. So damn frustrated!!!!

:)The choke is not going to be related to the "Gas pouring out" The choke could be closed and therefore making the engine run rich from lack of Oxygen. If there is no wires to it and no place to plug wires into , then assume it is a manual choke. Sometimes a little spray lube to the choke parts will help free it up. Fix your gas leak.

I want to order a new carb and I want to keep it original. I don't have a pull choke and I didn't see any wires so I wonder if it is an earth choke. I just want to replace it any suggestions

An electric choke uses an electric current to heat a coil that operates the choke flap.

The "Climate" will pull a heat source from normally the intake to heat the coil and operate the choke flap.

Both are good as long as they are functioning right.. neither wont make the carb dump gas. You more then likely have a cracked float that is filled with gas and not closing the needle causing gas to just run into the carb. Or your needle is gummed up.

:)I am not familiar with your application but, Somewhere on that carb.............there will be a part# stamped. Usually on the base or machined flat , look around and then talk to your parts people about what you have.
Sometimes, someone may have changed from OEM? Check it out.

It could be just a stuck float try tappimg on the side of the carb. I have had them stick and doing that will free them up.

Ok I took your advice and took a Large screwdriver and tapped the carb in several spots and damn if it didn't work great Thank you Thank you. Now the thing is the rear main seal isn't leaking anymore but now the front of the oil pan is leaking OMG :bang::bang::down:

Don't know what to do I guess I could go by another one piece oil pan gasket and do it for the fifth time

Tonk,

:)Sounds like perhaps that Jeep has just been laying around for a long enough time that maybe the gaskets & seals dried up? Or
Do you have proper crankcase ventilation? if your breathers are plugged and your piston rings are old , sometimes the leakage from the compression stroke bypasses the rings and pressurizes the crankcase / pan area which will cause gaskets to leak. Or
Maybe it just needs a whole new gasket? Take it off clean all the surfaces block & pan down to bare metal, use a good gasket sealer and new gasket , finger tighten the pan on, let it set for 10 minutes or so and progressively tighten the bolts in a semi circle front to back............

Well I let it sit for about 3 months. It has a new rear main seal new one piece oil pan gasket, new oil pan. When I bought my cj it didn't have a breather or a pcv valve and I bought all new ones. however I tightened the oil pan up from the back to the front. would that really make a difference. Thank you

:)Should be tightened in a sequence front to back & side to side bringing the pan down evenly........could have squeezed the gasket out the front? Don't be afraid of using some automotive silicon sealer.

I could be 180* wrong but for even distribution of pressure on the gasket(s) wouldn't a circular pattern starting from near the center moving outward be more approapriate? (like a cylinder head)
