FYI: I cut it with a jig saw and a steel cutting blade. Took about 10 minutes.

As I think about this, a couple of these that were the same height as the fenders in the back could be kind of cool.
One on either side, bolted or just strapped to the fender to look almost like they belong there.

this was a good idea.:chug:

a nice faux machine gun mount would go good with the cans bolted to ther ear fenders. :chug:

a real one would be better, but it may interfere with the ice chest.

the brace on the side, is that spot welded on?

yes. those braces are spot welded on from the factory. I guess it eliminates the sides flexing when it's full of 20 mm rounds.

the question is , how hard will it be to remove.

shouldn't be hard, only held on with 5-6 little spot welds. I'd a screwdriver would pop them loose. I'm leaving mine along with all thefactory latches.
I removed the seal and am gonna split the top about 2" off the back end then install a piano hinge. Then screw down and/or tack down the short end. More pics to come soon.

:notworthy: I like it.

I have to finish the paint and add a padded arm rest.

Cornfed....what you have there is a 60mm mortar can, i've got a few years of unpacking and humping those around the south GA woods.

Totally cool - well after yesterday it works awesome - Johnny Reb - great work!
and T-Bone - 60mm is perfect for binoculars and 9mm - was hauling sandbags to the back 40 yesterday and nice to have the can! One less thing bouncing around the Jeep -

Thanks. I laid out the armrest tues. I used a piece of osb and cut up a cheap sleeping mat. It's about 6-7 layers thick. Now I need to get a piece of nygahide to cover it and bolt it down.

Those are the old steel horse superseats from 4wd hardware. I think they are out of business. I bought them in 1998 and love em.
