Is there anyplace better than Craigslist? This is the first year I've dealt with Craigslist for anything and I've just got to say, "This is the best thing to come alone in a very long time. I've purchased and sold many items and have gotten and given great deals on all of it.

Sold:
Harley Davidson Motorcycle to finance my Jeep Project, 35" tires and AMC 304 motor. All deals went smoothly with no hassle at all.

Purchase:
'75 Jeep, 360 motor, Hi Life Extreme Jack, Thermal Arc Welder, Lincoln Wire Feed MIG Welder.

All in all the ability to get parts has kept my Jeep project going.

Have you done well on Craigslist or other sites like it. Lets hear about your successes, surprises and other stories about buying used items for your CJ project.

I bought my 1981 CJ7 just west of Texarkana for 3500. It came off a farm with 5000 miles on it

I've had good luck with craigslist but there is a lot of people out there that will try to sell you something that they don't have.

I buy and sell several jeeps, other 4x4's,harleys as well as wheels, tires and other parts on craigslist..It is my main source and outlet

Buy lots from craigslist. I've always had a good experience when dealing with Jeep items, think that's Jeep people, not Craigslist.

81 CJ7 , AMC360, YJ cage, tires for JK all from Craigslist. I wish the classified section here was used or changed to be more user friendly. I sold and purchased tons of stuff on jkforum. Nothing here.

amen to that

Has anybody stumbled on a part they never thought they would find. I'm also addicted to pawn shops.

Bought my 78 CJ5 from Craigslist, but I haven't seen many parts in my area. The closest I've seen parts for CJs is 1-2 hour drive. Maybe if I'm ever looking for an engine or Transmission I'd take that drive, but for anything else I'd have to factor in the cost of gas.

Parts seem to come in waves. For a while a front axel with disk brakes on it caught my eye for ~$75. IF I were really hot on upgrading to disk brakes it would have been mine. THere are to many irons in the fire right now. Last week there was a '75 CJ6 with minor damage and a salvage title for $2000 OBO. It had fuel injection, a couple year old engine, hard top, no rust. Looked awful in the picture. Two tires were flat, damaged front fender (I have a set of '75 fenders) and there was glass damage. Looked like it might have had a gentle roll over. All in all the damage was cosmetic. I would have been on it like a fly on a pig, again if there weren't so many irons in the fire.

I bought an entire truck load of CJ7 parts this summer for 500 bucks..It was a 4 hour drive but I got a hardtop, hard doors, nice set of 31's and wheels, complete steering column, nice set of seats, center console, windshield light bar and much more. Some of it I will never use but I like spare parts. It was a good trip

Got my CJ7 off Craigslist 2 years ago.

It can be fun to watch the chain of events. I had a running AMC 304 , saw a junk yard 360 and bought it for $590 ($550 + tax). Pulled the AMC 304 and sold it for $450 to a fellow that threw a rod on his AMC 304 . Now his AMC 304 is on CL for $200.

Ive never found anything worth while on Craigslist or sold things through Craigslist. Totally worthless in my opinion. Nobody on the East Coast should even bother checking there for Jeep parts.

:D

Hmmmm come to think of it Peter might have a point, nothing to see here folks, move on now ..... :)

I bought my jeep last year on craigslist along with other parts. You just have to watch out for people getting your phone and e-mail and selling it to spam companies.
