I have a 1976 CJ5 that i recently installed new fuel and temp gauges on. Only fuel wasnt working but i see that it is suggested that i replace both. Now neither one works. I think my problem is that i cant get power to my hot wire that plugs in fuel gauge. Ive replaced the fuse three times, 7.5 amp. Now it blows so easily that i cant even touch it with a test light. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Not familiar with how the '76 is wired, but it has to be a short circut caused by that wire is touching the body where that the insulation has worn off of it. That would be the first thing I would look for.

You have to make sure the mounting posts for the fuel and temp gauges are not touching the speedometer housing. Burnt up a couple of fuel gauges, a box of fuses and several days before i figured that out. this site helped me out as well. Basic Troubleshooting for CJ gauges

not sure about that year, but at one point I was blowing fuses left and right in my '81 and it turned out a fusable link had gone bad. Turned out to be an inexpensive easy fix. But since I had never dealt with that before I nearly made a mountain out of a mole hill.
