'82 CJ8, 258, D300, AMC20, D30
82 and up CJ's have wider axles (diffs) then prior versions for stability... A 76-81 CJ can use 82 and up 'wide track' axles with little - really no fabrication (the shocks mounts are a little different). Just have to swap them out.

hmm seems like a little confusion here....
I was under the assumption that Cj-5s were all narrow trac through the final year ( 83 ). Cj-7s and Cj-8s received the wide trac starting with the "82" model year. Its hard to say all or always with Jeeps since Amc would use just about anything available at any time.
