Can anyone tell me if yj springs are the same lengh as cj springs in the front and rear? I know they are wider in the front but not sure about the length.
thanks

Yj's are a little longer, app. 5/8 in front and app. 1/4 in back. Not enough to make a difference.

They are flat though? no arch?

Well the reason I ask is because when I go to do the SOA install I am wondering if I will need to relocate the front hanger of the rear spring further forward? Also where can I get front shackles that will go from 2" to 2.5" to accommodate for the wider yj spring? And also wider hangers for the front springs?
Thanks

getting spring hangers and shackles is the easy part, and yes if you are going to cur the old hangers off to make for the wider springs, you should remeasure both sided to recenter the axle. and as long as you are recentering the front axle why not do the same for the rear.
Just buy YJ Shackles, spring hangers you can get aftermarket of I just buy them from the metal supply store around here, they have them in the prefab area.

YJ springs they have a larger bushing and use a sleeve. What you want to do is buy or fabricate shackle hangers to match, big improvement over the CJ bushing. I made mine as well as the shackles so that I could build exactly the length I wanted, cutting torch, grinder, drill press and some plate steel.
I did see and will look for it but someone is selling a YJ hanger as a kit that would save alot of cutting work.

That was easy...Gen right. This way you can also choose the location on the frame by were you drill your bolt holes, I also weded the front edge to the frame for extra strength.

You dont have to do anything to the rear....
And the front only needs the front shackle hangers addressed. The rear hangers on the front accept a 2½" spring just fine, they are the same spread as the front hanger for the rear springs.

There are many companies out there that make a front shackle hanger for converting to YJ springs.

Correct you don't "have to" but why not? other than cost anyway.;)

Why mess with something that is already there...and perfectly useable :D

Well yes..there and useable, perfect..no

Ideal, Same bushings and sleeves at each end of the shackle with the same width demention and not having to worry about bolt torque one way or the other.
You would be in denial to think otherwise.:D

Im a bit confused what you are saying Sasquach...or maybe we just are thinking two different things

On a 1984 CJ, the rear hanger for the front springpack is the same as the front hanger for the rear springpack. Even though it is using a 2" springpack in a stock application.

The rear is set up to accept a 2½" springpack. Logic says, if the other hanger (for the front suspension) is the same dimension, it will accept a 2½" springpack correct?

The only thing that needs to be changed to add YJ springs is the front shackle hanger on the frame horns. Everything behind that is already set up to accept the 2½" YJ springpacks.

You are correct in the width and I may be splitting hairs but... The difference is the bushing diameter, YJ uses an 1.5" OD bushing that uses a sleeve with the bolt. The CJ uses a 1" OD bushing with bolt only, The two have a slightly different shoulder width.
When you mix the two different size bushings on the same shackle you will not have exactly the same overall bushing width because the shoulder on the two different bushings are not the same, maybe only a 1/16" or so but enough to make it less than ideal with either a pinched condition or loose CJ bushing.
Am I making any sense?

It does make sense to use the right parts when doing upgrades.

I still want to see the Demented width

Correct along with the shackle itself.

Here you go.

Your pic is what Cjim7 is talking about needing to be replaced. The shackle and shackle hanger. I believe you were thinking he was just recomending replacing the shackle.

I am not getting thru am I?

Yes 2.5" CJ shackle hangers will work with 2.5" YJ springs
Yes you need to replace the sock 2" CJ front shackle hanger, or use mickey mouse offset shackles.

NO it is not the best set up.

Yes a better set up is to use YJ size shackle hangers at both ends thus allowing you to use the larger YJ bushings both on the spring and the hanger.

Here you go.
ah, I was referring to the use of demention, should should have been caught by the spell checker. I think you meant dimensions, which are a measurement, not dimension which is a property such as one dimensional.
Anyway it was meant to be a HAHA, guess I failed
