cj and yj springs

cj and yj springs
ah, I was referring to the use of demention, should should have been caught by the spell checker. I think you meant dimensions, which are a measurement, not dimension which is a property such as one dimensional.
Anyway it was meant to be a HAHA, guess I failed

Now I have to spell correctly? You are now splitting hares.:D

no, I was just wondering when a bolt got Demented, PUNNY isn't it?

I'm swapping to yj springs. My order went through with cj hangers ordered and yj shackles! Found out the hard way that the bushings are not the same size. My intent was to order yj hangers, leafs, and shackles. NOT NOT NOT to order cj hangers. So idk if it was my fault when talking to the sales dude or his fault. I've got two shackle hangers tacked on, fairly easily removed if I buy the yj ones. But what should I do, get new shackle bushings or get the correct yj sized shackle hangers?

If your asking me I would say cut them off and get the large bushing hanger and you will not regret it. You will end up with a more presision functioning shackle.

I see what you are saying, and I concede :chug: You are correct the bushings are a little different in shoulder width (diameter doesnt make any difference)

....I had also forgotten that we trimmed down those shoulders and sleeves slightly to work on the CJ we did the conversion on. Alzheimers is great!

It was much easier and quicker to do that then it was to cut the old hangers off and reweld new/purchased hangers back on ;)
Mickey Moused? Not at all.

I have to agree, if you are going YJ springs, get new hangers

I am not getting thru am I?

Yes 2.5" CJ shackle hangers will work with 2.5" YJ springs
Yes you need to replace the sock 2" CJ front shackle hanger, or use mickey mouse offset shackles.

NO it is not the best set up.

Yes a better set up is to use YJ size shackle hangers at both ends thus allowing you to use the larger YJ bushings both on the spring and the hanger.

Looked at pics, went downstairs to garage, looked at Cj, came upstairs, looked at pics again...

Got it. :)

You guys take all the fun out of fabricating :( :D :chug:

I got to fabricate my hangers and the shackles for the YJ bushings, no off the shelf stuff here.:chug:

Excellent!:chug: I hate it when you guys start ganging up on me.:D

Boy this thread won't die.

FYI... if you want to build your own hangers 2" DOM tubing 1/4" wall leaves you the 1.5" ID needed for the YJ bushing and some 2" x 1/4" wall square tubing for the base.
Not the easiest working with 1/4" wall steel but that's were the fun is!

Up in my town the DOM sounds difficult to find. I don't even think I can get ERW in that wall thickness. I may go that way anyways…we'll see. Talking to Morris4x4 right now.

Well I was right, I'll have to order the erw or dom. But they have black pipe in stock…. Sounded like a bad idea at first but if its in the square tubing you think it would be ok?

Bad idea. Pipe does not have a clean bore and is not the 1.5" ID that you need.
I ordered mine from metalsdepot online shipped to my door enough for all four locations plus 2 sq. ft. of 1/4" plate for shackles and other uses.
Cost $108 but $36 of it was shipping, I had no source either.

It should have the correct bore as that is how its ordered, but yeah its not a clean bore. I'm trying to track down a foot or two in town (of erw or dom). Called like 3 places so far.

Holy :dung:. Metalsdepot want $50 for 2ft of 2x.250 dom tubing.

EDIT: just noticed 1.75" with .120" wall has an I.D. of 1.51". I need some of that for my bumpers anyways.....What do you guys think? Sounds good, and much easier to get.

DOUBLE edit: stuff seems way cheaper here. http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/175X120DOM.html

You only need 10" total for 4 hangers why get 2 feet?
Ya when I say "clean" I was referring to the raise weld seam normaly found in pipe.
1.51 ID would obviously be close enough, it's a press fit anyway.

either way its like $30 for a foot from metalsdepot, its half the price at that other place. I think I'm going to order up the 1.75 .120 wall as i want that for my bumpers anyways.

I must be spoiled

I go down to the local metal supply place and buy stuff like this off the scraps table and get it for by the pound price.
