WTF? Being a prior USAF Jet Mech. this would never happen. Something the size of a work light knob doesn't go missing. All tools are checked before and after turn in. Hell even the little ball in a ratchet or extension is checked to see if it's missing.
I'd be pissed if I worked there. Did you read how they attempted to remove it, dry ice to try and shrink it?!?! Some of the greatest minds and they come up with dry ice.......
