The fact that they are still "ASKING" bears mentioning. Might bare little resemblance to what they are GETTING.

Low 3 digit Vin! One of the very first m38a1s!
The problems with buying one are...
Incredibly lousy workmanship! Very few are actually done right.
The few that are right cost both arms and both legs.
For example check NADA Guide for vintage Jeeps, I think you will be as astonished as I was.
I just sold a ‘76 CJ5 that was in great - not excellent condition for $22,000.00.
Mechanically flawless. New seats, winch etc... but the paint was a ten footer.
Most feel that ‘76 wasn’t a great year. I’m one of them.
The attached pic is what it looks like.
So yeah... build one, but do it right!

If you do lots of research and build it yourself becuase you enjoy it you will know exactly what you have.
Just finished a complete rebuild on a VW air cooled dune buggy for 2 years and lots of money. Probably sell it for a 50% loss but I enjoyed doing it.

Another thing to consider... if someone spends the time, effort and energy building one they are less likely to thrash it like Mom & Dad bought it for a spoiled kid.
Keeping Jeeps alive as long as possible is really an obsession with me. I have tons of respect for the “old” ones.
