New user here in this forum... I have a CJ5 problem, engine 6 inline, engine was recently repaired from head gasket, problem.. so now my problem is when I turn the switch to start it runs, when i release the key to run position the car turns off... sometimes works smooth and sometimes does not run... if i keep the key in start position and give gas throttle the car runs soon as i release the key to run position the car turns off... everything in the dashboard is on.. any suggestions? coil problem? I'm assuming is a electrical issue.. but don't know where or how to star...

I'm so sorry for the mistakes in my writing but english is my second language...

Dang, Dude - Your English is better than mine.....

Sounds like you’re having issues with your ignition switch. Your lock cylinder if functioning properly, but the switch is not. It is located on top of the steering column, about a foot down from the steering wheel. Many wires pass thru it.

Thanks for the quick reply... I will check the ignition switch today wiring and perhaps I'll replace the switch... thanks once again and great compliment about my english...

If there is a ballast resistor or resistor wire in your ignition circuit, its more than likely bad. Went key turned to the start position the ballast resistor is bypassed. Went returned to the run position the ballast resistor is used to drop the voltage to the coil.
