CJ5 232 to 258 upgrade

The old AMC 232 i6 in my 75 CJ5 died and I have a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l from a 86 yj, how involved will the switch be? As far as moter mounts etc.?

can you weld? and fab up things? no problem at all
now I do not know if they will line up perfectly, probably not, I think that getting out a tape measure and doing some measurements from the old motor and the new motor will give you a clue, then buy the new mount pads and some square tubing and go for it. Keep the old ones you cut off as a design example

Isn't the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l a stroked AMC 232 i6 ?

If so, then everything should bolt up just the same. Like Baja said, get new motor and Transmission mounts for the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l .

come to think of it, I think it is a str0oked block

in that case, it should just slide in, but again, new mounting rubber and please. check out the old mounts for cracks and reweld if any
