Currently stripping my tired daily driver CJ5 down to bare frame for a rebuild. Time to decide on a drivetrain. Jeep has standard AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l with T-150 and Dana 20 . Thinking about 4.0 head swap with factory efi. T-176 4 speed with Dana 300 . Also have wt Dana 30 and 44 out of a later CJ7 I was going to swap in. Anybody see any problems with this setup. Will the head swap cause any issues with compression? Will I see any gains with the head swap? Would like it to remain my daily driver. Thanks in advance for any opinions.

Man that’s gonna be a sweet set up

I would suggest some research on the head swap last I looked there was a lot out there on it, and 1 piece axel shafts if you don’t already have them for the wide trac

He said he has a Dana 44 for it. they don't have a 2 piece axle. Sounds like a good set up. Good plan
