Looking to convert a DJ5 postal Jeep over to 4wd. I've heard a few different things about the frames: they use a unique heavy duty frame, they use a pre 74 frame and they use a post 74 frame. Which one is it?

Also looking to repower the Jeep with a FI 4.0/AW4 but am unsure which Tcase to use with the passenger drop front axle. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help!

Thats a really long drivetrain for a DJ / CJ5 . Short postal nose and a short wheelbase combined. The postal grill may actually help you out a little. For the most part CJ5 and Dj parts swap. I dabbled in this years ago and decided against it. The left hand drive makes things a little difficlt but there was a member here that built one. Heres the build thread.

Yeah that drivetrain is on the long side but a bunch of those DJ's had the AMC 232 i6 /AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , right?

Do the CJ/DJ fenders interchange? I wonder if the DJ5 body can go on a later CJ5 frame with a DJ5 body and CJ5 nose or am I way off?

I'll check out that build thread.

Years ago a friend bought one. He parked it next to my CJ. Subtle differences. The biggest thing was the frame was actually a thinner gage steel. Well gas mileage was important to the USPS then.

It's a lot of work and when you're done you still got a DJ.

Keep looking for a CJ if that's what you want. :D

A CJ would be nice but I need a RHD Jeep for delivering the mail and figured why not go old school.:)

Would the RHD DJ stuff swap over to a CJ?

I've done the 4x4 conversion on the dj5. And I can tell you from start to finish how to do it
