CJ5 - Random Questions

I have been accumulating a bunch of questions over the past few weeks and figured I'd put them all together instead of a bunch of smaller posts. If this wasn't the right thinking, my apologies.

Does anyone have any recommendations for swaybar disconnects? I have a 2.5" Rancho lift with around 1.25" - 1.5" lift in the shackles.

I'm going to be doing the TeamRush upgrade soon and was wondering if there was any better plugs I could use for the best performance. I don't know anything really about it but want only the best for it.

Recommendations for paining chrome rims? I'd like to use some sort of textured Krylon but not sure about needing to sand or prime first.

At some point I'd like to give her a new paint job but really don't want to completely disassemble. Is this usually mandatory for a proper painting?

I'm running the stock alternator. I'm would like to upgrade it to something better if that even makes sense. I'll be putting an Optima Yellow top in soon. If that doesn't make sense, I understand.

Suggestions for the best place to mount a CB antenna? I don't have a tailgate but have 33's and will eventually get the spare back on so rear space is Limited .

I have the BesTop Tiger top and love it. I really like hte fact that the side windows fold up and makes a Safari top though I can't figure out how to keep the diagonal posts from popping out and getting loose when hitting bumps. Any insight there would be great.

Personally I don't know much about them... You can try the search feature on the site though and maybe find something better!

As with any painting, the more prep you do, the better everything will turn out at the end! Powder coating would be a possibility...?

Again, better looking way, dismantle, but I'm sure you wouldn't be the first one to short-cut that job/project...

what exactly are you planning to upgrade it for? Do you have a lot of extra electronics going in? Theres a few good posts about pros and cons of alternator swaps, and if its actually necessary around here too... I'd do a little reading first to see if you actually want to / need to. Sometimes you create a mess of needing to replace wiring etc, as your new alternator would blow some of the older wiring (at least in my old CJ... I forgot to look at the year of yours... Just looked, your 79 might handle more than my 74's wiring would...

You can get pretty creative with this... I have a rack / spare tire carrier with a mount built off it (just a bracket with hole in it...) like you see here:



there might be better pictures of it somewhere, but you should get the idea...

hmmm.. not sure on this one either... see if you can figure a strap or bungi system out to hold pressure one way or the other so it doesnt jog around and pop loose from its "spot"?
