Cj5 windshield frame

I need help with finding out what year windshield frame is on my 68 CJ5 . Bought jeep as a fixer upper for my son and I. We are having a ton of fun putting it back together,almost done,just a few more things to get it on the road. One big problem we are having is finding out what year the windshield frame is from,(we need to replace windshield). wipers are on the bottom, it has defroster vents, sides of frame straight, not tapered. Outside frame measurements are: 59 1/4"w X 20 5/8"h. Inside frame opening is 56 3/8"w X 13 1/2"h. Anybody have this problem.

By the description of the windshield sides and the width, I surmise that it's a pre-'76 CJ5 windshield. Does it also have that very cool exterior-mount wiper motor?

Is the top of the frame curved or straight (72 to 75 frames are curved) and is the wiper motor on the outside or the inside (76 and up motors are on the inside)...

There is only two possibilities the older ones are smaller than the later model ones and they changed in '77 or '78 I can't remember witch. But I measured mine that is the later one and what I did was measured the inside lip where the w/s goes and got 16 3/8 x 54 and did in the middle both ways. If you still have your old w/s measure it and post the size. Hope this helps.

A picture would really help.'69-71 also had curved glass on top with wiper on bottom outside. '68 glass is straight on top with top mount wipers.I think the '69 to '75 would be very simualar. mike

Any good windshield shop can cut you a windshield. It is flat glass after all (I guess, never looked closely at a CJ5 windshield). They did mine when the precut one they were trying to install broke. Turns out my new frame was a tad smaller and they had to cut the new one 1/8" shorter at the top. They also had universal gasket if needed.

Yes the wiper motor is mounted on the outside. PO has made a bunch of changes to the Jeep. I have found some of it came from a 78 Jeep, but not ever thing. Thanks for your help.

Top and sides of frame are straight, glass is flat. (We have pictures of Jeep but my son wasn't home when I posted this and he's the computer whiz, I'm the gear head.) Old windshield is gone not able to measure it.Meaments I posted are the opening for the glass. I have talked to a glass co., and they said they could make and install one for us, but I would like to know what year frame it is if possible.Would also like to do it myself, to teach my son how to install windshields.
