1970 CJ5 225 V6 everything stock except for overdrive unit.
I have a 1970 CJ5 with a windshield problem. I ordered wiper blades and arms from Morris 4x4 as per their catalogue for this model. The 11 inch blades extended above the windshield moulding by about 2 inches. Morris replaced the 11 inch blades with 9 inch ones, which were still slightly too long. Does anyone know the exact dimensions of the proper windshield glass for this model? I've also had trouble with the exact fit of a hardtop that was bought previously. I suspect that the windshield may have been changed or the windshield is different from the specified windshield. If anyone can offer information I would appreciate it.

can of worms
you see there are quite a few windows made for the CJ5 that will all interchange, let me ask you something first. are the wipers on the bottom or the top?
9 inch blades should work with a 70 just fine if it is a stock windshield. are the blade frames plastic or metal?

does the motor for the wipers fit on the front or inside the window frame?

Do you have the original wiper arms? maybe an adjustable replacement one?

The wipers are bottom-mount with the wiper-motor on the outside of the windshield frame on the driver's side. The frame is metal and the blade frames are metal also. I figured that there were interchangable windshields and that at the transition time from Kaiser to AMC they may have used whichever frames they had in stock, even for new-vehicle assembly. The windshield may have been replaced, but it is unlikely since I have owned the jeep since about 1980.

I have considered replacing the windshield since the glass is becoming smoky around the edges. If I could get a windshield frame that would fit both the wipers and the top I would like to do that. It seems that the frames are less than $300.

from what you discribed to me, you have a 1970 windshield
you should have metal arms
amd you need to find a set of 9 inch metal framed wiper blades

A bit of kaiser'\-AMC transition history
in 1970 kiaser sold AMC the Jeep mark, the only changes that year were by Kaiser, they did not change the windshield though
they also did not mess with the 71, instead they re-engineered the front of the Jeep by adding 3 inches for the 72 lineup. Why they did this was to introduce the AMC strait six. The V6 that Kaiser had bought from Buick was one of the legendary engines of early CJs, but Buick was bidding to buy it back and AMC saw that as a bonus to recover capitol extended to buy Jeep. Plus they had a great strait six to put in the CJ platform.
Also changed was the t case, they dropped the T-18 to go with the t20 this allowed them to us a AMC rear end, the corporate 20 and not have to outsource the Dana 44 , also they went with a more modern front axle, the Dana 30 which had open knuckles that are less maintenance heavy as the d27. Both the front axles d27 and Dana 30 have the sane ring size so they had equal strength. many guys with D27s will not change them out as they are great axles and have proven to last 40 plus years.
Once they started they decided to re-engineer the entire platform and released the CJ7 in 1976 and dropping the CJ6 . OK so the CJ5 stayed on until the mid 80s as it was a great seller but it was still outclassed by the CJ7 in size and width. A huge improvement to the universal platform.

so, your problem, as well as the rest of us that have early CJs (pre 72) is finding some of the parts are obsolescent, as are these wipers. try collins bros, and a few others to find if they can source them for you, or do a arm retro upgradedd and buy modern blades

if you are having a fit problem with top is it sounds like you have a top for a late CJ5 , (after 75) and a early CJ5 (Pre 72). if you think that is bad, guys with intermediate cj5s (72 to 75) really have few old jeeps to get parts from, both the other classes have many choices.

PS , they call me the Shaman of OLD jeeps because I love the short nosed CJs, or the pre 73s, and have messed with them for over 30 years.

Is there a problem finding arms that fit the stub outs??

(stub outs?? what do you call the splined axle the arm fits on??)

I'm thinking this would require a bit of cutting and welding.

IO, There is no problem with "sub-outs."

Baja Edition, Thanks. I'll check out Collins Bros,

Your right the buick motor is an awesome motor. Kaiser just used junk Transmission (in my case the T-86 ) An awesome parts site that i get my parts from is Kaiserwillys.com It has pretty much everything you might need. But i dont know if it will solve his problem

Mike I absolutely love the 225 V6, have it in both my 67 CJ5 and the 70 CJ6 . I also have a T-86 in my 67, part of the problem of changing it out is the tranny is the T 14 uses a different input spline count than all the other trannies Jeep ever matched with the 225, so what ou have to do is get a new output shaft for the T-18 , or go with a different tranny, but the T-14 is just to good of a tranny to overlook. I am about to start on my TJ 6 project so I have a big hole T-18 married to a T-14 I can swap into the 67.
I will be taking out a PTO drive and front PTO winch from the 67 id anyone is interested, bolts direct to any T 18.

HOLD ALL HORSES
I found them locally, and maybe they are a bit longer than 9 inches
BUT NAPA CARRIES THEM
that is right, got a set just a bit ago for the CJ6
Napa exact fits, part number 60-011-6
