1978 cj7 304 turbo 400 Quadra-trac transfer
Hi to all jeep lovers . I'm working on a 1978 CJ7 for my wife . My problem is with air in the brake system . I have replaced everything with the brakes except the hard lines .Yes i have bench bled m/c then started bleeding at farthest point to closest point of mc when completed . I also have a power bleeder also but still air in system .. I have researched and found out that there is a 2 bolt caliper or a 6 bolt caliper . local parts store ask if 10" or 11" drums .. so what is this 2 bolt or 6 bolt cailper

Gonna bump this for you as I am not familure with the 2 and 6 bolt calipers...

I'm here to look and learn on this one. Post pic of power bleeder.

Well here is the power bleeder that goes on m/c ,then u hook up to a tank ( Kinda like a weed sprayer but with a air fitting ) You pump to 10psi and crack valve on air fitting and then open bleeder at farthest point ..can post pic of tank later gotta take one of it ..

Here's a pic of the tank for the bleeder.

I have used a few different power bleeders with varying success. What I find is the best way to get air out is to manually bleed them. Sometimes those Power bleeders just push air in. if its an old system I would manually bleed and them power bleed at low psi to get the system flushed. If everything is new (only usually happens on a restoration) then just manually bleed and recheck the pedal.

I have I have manually bleed the sytem several times to no avail . I have put many brake systems together on all kinds of rigs . At the most it should take is a quart at most not 4 quarts . I have even tilted the caliper up so the bleeder is up higher than the line coming in . air then fluid then all of a sudden more bubbles then fluid then more bubbles a sec later ... 1979 Jeep Cj7 Brakes Problem 'T Get Decent Brake Pedal Despite New Parts Cj... Here's a link to a guy that was having the same problem as me .This is a link to the calipers scroll down to bottom and read this 2 bolt 0r 6 bolt 78 1978 Jeep CJ7 Brake Caliper - Brake - A1 Cardone, Centric, Front Left, Front Right - PartsGeek

:)The six bolt system is making reference to the caliper bracket that the caliper floats or attaches to............It is a large steel bracket that attaches to the hub via 6 bolts. This is commonly known as the "Large Brake" 1.25" wide vented rotor that was available in 1977-1978 This package also had the H/D 6 bolt hub and the Warn Premium locking hubs included............if you have rotors that are under 1" wide those are not the 6 bolt system.

:)Check or replace your bleed screws on each corner.............you are obviously taking in AIR from a bleed screw or damaged seat or fitting.

:)Not sure I understand your question, You do not have 2 -bolt Calipers Yours are held on and float via those clips in one of your pictures,
Your pictures show the six bolt system and that Caliper part # should be a Raybestos FRC 4085........there is a Left and a Right side caliper both with a different part number I think the other side is a 4086...........BUT, I'm just going on memory here so I would take your parts down to your Local Parts house and match them up.
What master cylinder are you talking about? If its the wheel cylinders and you still have Drum brakes on the back that is a Standard Item used in many applications.

My local parts house , all they ask is if the rear drums 10" or 11" and they gave me a wagner part # for m/c wag r97742 and wag cr83281 for calipers . I figured I was good to go with all new parts . new shoes springs wheel cylinders turned drums ,front new bearings they feel apart ,seals turned rotors new rubber lines all 5 of them new calipers pads then bleed and drive Wrong thats when i found proportion valve sucking air, changed that then i would be good to go Wrong lol so i will check out your # at a brake and clutch store and go from there . Will give them all #"s to see what is what .

Paparooster,

:)Sounds Good, You should have 11" brakes in the back and all the rest of the Items you should be able to source. That Caliper # I gave you is correct for one side only.............Glad you found the air leak. Let the forum know how everything works out for you.
:D:D:D:D

No ,there is still air in the system some how ? I will check it out .. need all the help I can get .. never had a problem like this before with all the brakes I have done before ,

Well here's the update on brakes . when I pulled caliper off to take some pictures of it , I was inspecting it around the seal and look what I found , they were both were all wet around the seal , so my local parts guy warrantied them out for me . If that dont work I'm gonna try the raybestos part # out then or do a complete upgrade on brakes like corvette master cylinder and booster with gm style calipers and mounts .
