CJ7, Engine A/C.alternator, bracket problems

I'm attaching 2 photos, they say they are worth a thousand words. I have an '84 , 6 cylinder which I am setting up for my wife's Jeep. As you can see from the photos, the alternator mounts way too far forward, actually 1.5 inches. I have the original AC bracket, the aluminum one for the Sanden 508 compressor and the GM alternator. What am I doing wrong, or what am I missing? ( the copper rod is just to hold it up for the picture.)

On my '86, with the serpentine belt, there is a steel mounting bracket which mounts between the aluminum bracket and the alternator.

Thanks, but this vehicle has V belt drive.

You'll still need the same steel bracket. The alternator doesn't mount directly to the AC bracket, at least it didn't on mine.

You sure you have the correct ALT?

All Delco/GM alternators have a 2" foot for mounting, other than the very old ones with a 3.8" foot.

Yes, the small mounting bkt for AC vehicles is the adjustment arm, not the mount. The "C" shaped bkts are as noted, for NON AC vehicles. that's the problem, the mounting foot makes the alternator too far forward by 1.5 inches.

I still think it's upside down, as the plug needs to be facing out. Or is there no plug like on my pic?

What does it look like with the alternator mounted behind the bracket instead of in front as in the pictures you posted?

I know this post is 2 years old at this point, I just came upon the picture that shows belt routing with your setup. You will need a third pulley on the crank.
